Literacy Project Reflection

Recently I took part in a project for my Contemporary Literature class that was supposes to encourage other students to read. We had the option to do a Twitter campaign, make a video, or create posters; I chose to create my own posters. By making posters, I wanted to show students in my school that kids their age do read and think it is fun.

In each of these posters I chose two UofD students or teachers to ask questions to regarding their love for reading. Along with the names, questions, and responses, I included pictures of each persons favorite book or series.
Why Do They Look Like This?
I chose this format for the posters because I thought it would be the easiest way for other students to receive the data. I also thought that the order of how the poster is was neat and clear for everyone to see.
Thought Behind Design?
Honestly, while looking through examples of prior projects, I saw a design that had a similar layout and I thought that it would be very effective. The example had an interview format and used teachers to draw attention to students. I chose to do a majority of student interviews because i believe that students will be drawn more to interview by students rather than teachers.
Placement of Posters?
I placed my posters in six places. In the cafeteria, on a wall outside of the library, in the commons, on the second floor by the stairs, on the third floor on the main wall at the top of the stairs, and finally on the first floor on the wall in the main entrance. I chose these locations for the posters because I thought they all were placed in main POI of the building. Many students walk near the library, eat in the cafeteria, sit in the atrium, and travel up and down our schools flights of stairs.
Choices Made?
During my project I had to make a variety of choices such as the questions I would ask, the people I would interview, the design of my posters, and the placement of my posters. I made these decisions based off of good visual locations, eye popping designs, a mix and match of different types of students such as grade, race, and educational interests, and what four questions would come together to form one main point, and that is to read more.
Reflect
I believe that my project went pretty well. The end product was a successful one and it is what I hoped for while leading this campaign. I think a challenge was just time management because after creating your posters you had to have them approved and that took a while because Mr. Chandler was out of the office one of the days. I think my success of the project was the interviews because every student and the teacher I asked really had great answers that showed their love for reading. I do believe the posters filled the goal of the project because it advertised students that like to read and it is a convincing pull to read. I think that everyone's projects were taken well and nobody will dislike them or hate them. I think that the projects will for sure change others because if a student stops to read one of my posters he could see someone he looks up to or a friend's quote and then notice that it is cool to read and be studious.
