English Career

1. What have your previous experiences with English classes been like?
2. Do you like to read? Why or why not?
3. What do you hope to get out of this Contemporary Literature class?

My previous experiences with English classes have been pretty positive. My Freshman year coming into UofD Jesuit I was not a huge fan of English but that all quickly changed. My teacher was Mr. Davidson and he offered a new way of learning English in a fun environment. He taught me new ways to write essays, read books, and to become more enhanced with English. At the end of the year, English became one of my top three subjects and since then it has followed the same trend. As a sophomore, I had another great year with Mr. Davidson and my class and I continued to expand my love for English. Unfortunately, my Junior year took a slight turn for the worse.  The workload was heavier, I did not love my teacher as much as I had before, and having to juggle after school activities with school was difficult.

I do like to read but it depends on the book that I am reading. I usually do not read that much because it takes me a while to get into books before I can really start to like them. Once I start getting into the book and reading more than the book seems to be too short for me and i delve into the book wishing for more.

This year in contemporary literature class, I am looking to like reading more than I do now and to expand my horizons. I am picky about the books I read because of the fact that it takes me a long time to get into books, and hopefully this year I can reach out of my comfort zone and begin to read some books that I am not familiar with. I would also like to become a better writer through my blog, papers, and any other writing assignments that are handed out.

  1. I had the same idea for English as a freshman, I was not a fan of it but that changed. Hopefully you can find a liking for new books with this years class.

  2. I agree with you on the part where you said you enjoy reading only certain books. I am the same, and don't like reading certain genres.

  6. Thanks for sharing, Nick, and congratulations on your first blog post! I'm glad you have returned to Room 210 to end your English class experience with a high note. There will be quite a variety of titles this semester, so you will definitely get the chance to explore with your reading this year.
